The Tec Inc. Museum of Antique Engineering Tools… OK, that’s not the real name, we don’t really have a name for the museum. But we have a museum. And it’s filled with antique engineering devices and old books. Periodically, I will write a post highlighting one of the objects in the museum.
This post will focus on the favorite display of most visitors to the museum, the giant slide rule. We purchased the item from Don Leinweber when he decided to close his structural engineering practice a few years ago. He had it hanging in his storefront window. The giant slide rule originated as a teaching tool in school - probably hanging at the front of the classroom for the instructor to demonstrate it’s use.
Edmund Gunter developed the first slide rule in the early 1600’s. There were several variations and improvements over the years, and slide rules remained prevalent until the 1970’s when the electronic calculator became affordable.
If you really like Slide Rules, please visit the International Slide Rule Museum.

I just returned from the SMPS Build Business in Las Vegas Nevada. The
city is taking a big hit from the poor economy. Rossi Ralenkotter -
President & CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority
spoke prior to the keynote speaker and said there are currently 140,000
hotel rooms in Las Vegas, he didn’t offer the average number of
vacancies, but did say it has been a challenge to keep Las Vegas full.
The couple casinos I passed through were not terribly busy. Traffic to
and from the airport and in the terminal was fairly light. And there
are tremendous deals on rooms right now.
In the city of excess,
there are still “high-rollers” spending money, but it is also obvious
that Ohio isn’t the only place suffering right now.

Feet together, ready, set…jumping in to this world called social
media. Tec has been known to be
innovative and forward thinking. This foray into the realm of Web 2.0 will
follow that trend. The way businesses
are communicating is changing at a rapid pace.
Rather than just try to keep up, we’re going to push ahead. Blog, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Flickr
– it’s all around and we’re jumping in.
Here we go!!
